Well with a name more likely for a gay porn flick, I was very unsure about what I would get upon first listen to Boys With Beaks. At least if they were called something like Slit Wrist Theory then you’d know what to expect but then again you probably wouldn’t bother in the first place. After hearing these guys on the wonderful world of Myspace I was blown away and knew I needed to hear more. Although they will probably get lumping into the same category as other UK Post-Hardcore/Metal acts such as Enter Shikari and Penknifelovelife, these guys are a bit more special.
Not going for just the usual format of just adding a Synth to your sound because it’s the in thing to do, Boys With Beaks are defying all the rules by not even having a Bassist. Boys With Beaks consist of a two guitarists, one of which is also on vocal duties, a drummer and one member who just deals with all the electronic equipment that they use to create their intense but energetic electronic beats. On this 3 track demo, BWB come at you with a wall of sound from start to finish that could surely whip any live crowd into a frenzy.
‘Thundertank’ is the first song on display and starts with an amazing electronic intro that then kicks into some thrashing guitar riffs and those are two things that BWB do very well throughout this release. The remaining tracks ‘Go Deep’ and ‘TVR’ don’t let the side down either as they are pretty much everything but melodic. I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys become this years Enter Shikari and take the UK underground by storm. If anything these guys are more original than ES and if they can keep on crafting songs as good as this then 2007 will be there’s for the taking.
