‘Poison’ is the long awaited debut album from Bullet for My Valentine. After the release of their EP last year that had almost immediate success in a considerably short amount of time, fans have been hungry for more. This welsh band, originally from Bridgend have now been put on the map. With a Sony record deal under their belt they have been given the artistic freedom to do exactly what they want with this album. Constantly appearing in “Rock Sound” and “Kerrang” (you know the list can go on and on) this band have firmly been planted in the scene and are ready to rock, harder and faster than before.
“The Poison”, is a genre-defining opus of songs, some taken from their EP such as “Cries In Vain”. So many bands have the element of heavy emo metal riffs mixed with a more melodious voice (Lostprophets and Alexisonfire just to name a few). The inevitable comparison of Bullet for My Valentine, with fellow valleyites Lostprophets is becoming an increasingly unfair one. As Bullet for My Valentine are conquering the scene that they intend, Lostprophets is becoming an increasingly well-known name in all runs of life (not necessarily a bad thing, just a comparison).
A different dynamic has been explored on this album with such songs as “The End” where the tempo slows right down until half way through where the heavy riffs and screams are unleashed. “Hit the Floor” is more of a bullet typecast song but they are by no means stale. This album fits the bill exactly and does them phenomenal justice. “Her Voice Resides”, starts a lot heavier than it means to go, don’t be put of by the progress this band has made, it’s all in the name of music, not fashion! It won’t top the charts or blow everybody away but it’s definitely a CD to add to your collection.
