With a name that expresses a cheeky laziness and an EP title that hints at a humoured arrogance, dan.ed.will capture their audience’s attention before playing a single note.
‘Smile’ opens with a playful pop punk riff which leaves you waiting for the formulatic fake American accent, but luckily it never appears. Lead singer, Will Quick, has a voice like Marmite; thick and sticky. You’ll either love it or hate it. Definitely distinguishable, his vocals pummel each song with a raw, hard hitting punch. The band manage to take a youthful, edgy sound and yet make it accessible enough for fans across the punk spectrum. ‘Is This How It Is’ lacks the energy of ‘Smile’ but still holds the originality to make it a favourite. Lyrics such as, “like an alarm clock ringing in your favourite dream, waking you before you get the girl..” make you want to reach out and give Will a big hug, surely this band are too young to be thinking about girls?
‘This Place Feels Like’ is the best song on this EP with a sophisticated riff coupled with crisp, clear vocals making you want to hear more. A beautiful melody worthy of my next mixtape. Unfortunately the hidden track doesn’t quite fulfil your hopes but it certainly is one to play when you’re on your next family picnic.
dan.ed.will sound professional whilst still capturing the playful encouragement that pop punk bands try so hard to achieve. A definite success and a band who would be a treat to catch live.
