Band Of The Month
Death From Above 1979 - Your A Woman, I'm A Machine - Rachel
Album Cover

Start 2006 with a bang. This album will make you scream “Harder, Faster, Faster, Harder!” It’ll leave you down on your knees begging for more. These crude and possible indecent imperatives are one of the only possible explanations for this album. It’s heavy, brutal and rips at your brain. The chunky guitars and other instruments which are practically unidentifiable ring strongly from the roots of electro music, but it’s progressive. Scrap progressive. Its monstrous proportions of a double disc tyrant album with a kick ass attitude that makes you hate to love it but you can’t turn down it town, let alone turn it off.

Such songs as “Romantic Rights” and “Pull Out” sound like they belong to a new wave of advertising, to reel the kids in from their underground music scene. It’ll make you bob your head on the cradle of your neck more times than a chicken possible could.

The album cover, pink I hear you cry!? Not my first choice either for this album but the ironic idea of juxtaposing music with art is a clever one. It only brings home the extent of the cliché of “never judge an album by its cover”; it’s the music that matters. This album sounds distinctly like a basement album, recorded with a bunch of your mates from college, so simple, yet so effective.

“Black History Month”, is a sudden change from the breaking the mould norm that’s been established, leaving you with no idea what could happen next, what sound will come from your CD player next! The sound is not so utterly different from “The Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster”, and the length of the name is distinctly similar as well.

This year really is the year to discover “Death From Above 1979”, if you haven’t already done so. If you didn’t believe the rumours that they were utterly amazing live then you better give them a go. I know I will. Keep your eyes peeled for their next gig near you.
