Now unless you’ve been living under a rock the past year or are from somewhere other than the UK then you could be forgiven for not know the name Enter Shikari, otherwise you’re just lying. Enter Shikari are the biggest underground band in the UK, have had countless labels chasing them for about the past 9 months and are now selling out every single show they play in the UK including a recent sell out at the legendary Astoria in London. So the question is, do this band live up to the hype?
Well this 3 track Single/EP is a good introduction into this band and ‘Sorry You’re Not A Winner’ is a good start which hits you a break neck speed with Enter Shikari’s unique mix of Post-Hardcore, Modern Metal and Electronica. The song does lose pace a bit at the end but is definitely one that will win over many a mosh pit if hasn’t already. Next up is ‘OK Time For Plan B’ which is an alright tune that’s maybe a tad one-dimensional and loses pace again at the end but is another good example of what Enter Shikari can do. Then there’s the final track ‘The Feast’ which is a demo but shows that there could be good things to come from the bands debut album when it comes out next year. It’s an interesting mix of trance, punk and metal which contains maybe a bit too much unnecessary growling but is a good track and definitely one for people to get their dance on too.
This is a good showcase into the band for someone who may be unfamiliar with the band thus far and with their debut album due out March 2007 it will surely just help to build up the anticipation for that release. It is impossible to predict whether Enter Shikari will be able to sustain the current level of interest in what they do and I definitely think their in work to be done here. However if they can build on their sound, maybe add another level or two, and really stay on top of their game, whether or not they stay and take the DIY route or sign to a major label, Enter Shikari could be the biggest band in the UK this time next year.
