Band Of The Month
Every Time I Die - Gutter Phenonmenon - Stephen
Album Cover

There is no secrets that Keith Buckley and his troops of ETID have always done it for me. Simply because of their off the wall style and obvious need for progression as a complete band and sound. Gutter Phenomenon carries on this trend by sounding nothing like the two records previously released. The burning question is "Does it better what it follows on from?"

In one word I can answer my thoughts on the above question. That being "Yes it does". Things is that doesnt a) provide a good reading and b) explain why this is the case.

As soon as it gets going you know this is ETID. Its break neck speed. Its Rock N Roll and by christ its loud. Keith Buckleys almost signature strained squeels are still to be found on this record but the difference here is the melody injection. This is the point in the career where this band show that it aint all bout twisted time signatures and off the wall angular riffs. They show that ,in the rock n roll/metalcore sub genre they have been lumped into, they can write breakdown melodies like all the best.

For me the above is why this album is so good. So good that it makes it to my top 10 of 2005. If like many old fans are looking for the ETID of old with stop start riffs galore you are maybe best sticking with "Hot Damn!". If, on the other hand, you want to hear some groove ladden hardcore then this is the way to look. This is an album that stamps its ground in the rock n roll influenced hardcore scene and shows that ETID are here to stay.
