Band Of The Month
Fall Out Boy - Infinity On High - Andy

So probably the biggest news story of 2007 so far has been the leaking of Fall Out Boy’s third album ‘Infinity On High’. After millions of people hearing this album before it had even hit the shelves, there were very mixed reactions from a lot of the people I spoke to. Before hearing ‘Infinity On High’, some people were hoping for the band to go back to their ‘Take This To The Grave’ roots while others were just looking forward to seeing what the biggest Pop-Punk/Emo band on the planet could come up with next. I think the reactions to what people heard was also very mixed.

You know you’ve made it when you have Jay-z on the introduction to your album and that’s exactly what happens on first track ‘Thriller’, its starts with a little chat from Mr Shaun Carter and then explodes into a soon to be Pop-Punk anthem and the best possible start Fall Out Boy could have made. Things don’t go downhill from there either as it leads into ‘The Take Over, The Break’s Over’ which is another punchy little number which is then followed by the MTV smash hit ‘This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race’ which is so catchy that it’s nearly unbelievable.

It’s hard to guess what song they might follow that as a second single too with so many worthy candidates available. ‘I’m Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off’ is very poppy (in a good way) and yet again is amazingly catchy, as is ‘Don’t You Know Who I Think I Am’ which has a killer chorus. ‘Carpal Tunnel of Love’ also has single written all over it and is a song that really shows Patrick Stump hitting the high notes and has a few old school Pete Wentz screams. The album ends really well with ‘ Fame < Infamy’, ‘You’re Crashing, but You’re No Wave’ and final track ‘I’ve Got All This Ringing in my Ears…’, all keeping the feet tapping going right to the very end.

This album has only a few tracks that I now skip after a month of listening but not even they can be called bad songs by any stretch of the imagination. I would go as far to say that (in my opinion) this is the best Fall Out Boy album to date. Although I may get shot down by a few FOB fans for writing this, I believe this is their strongest album to date and contains more songs that I love than both ‘Take This To The Grave’ and ‘From Under The Cork Tree’. They may have already well and truly made it on the music scene but ‘Infinity On High’ just shows that Fall Out Boy are here to stay and deserve absolutely all the success that they manage to achieve.
