Now I’d heard a little about Fastlane before I bought this album but the two main reasons why I bought this album was due to the fact that it got an excellent review on punktastic and also the fact that it was only £7. Fastlane are a five piece Pop-Punk band from Guildford in England and they are really starting to make a name for themselves. Don’t let the Pop-Punk label put you off because these boys know how to come up with some killer riffs and put them together with the catchy choruses and even the odd scream, I would maybe describe these guys as the UK’s answer to Fall Out Boy.
The album kicks off with ‘Virus’ which at the start sounds like it could be a From First To Last song but then turns into a could be pop-punk anthem. The chorus of “Try and smile, you caught the virus of lonely times” is as catchy as any song could be and Benji Phillips vocals sound great on this one. ‘Dreaming’ is another amazing song and probably my favourite on the album. It’s another song with an amazing guitar riff and an amazingly catchy chorus, check it out on their myspace people. It doesn’t end there though, there are some more brilliant songs in the form of ‘Comfortable Silence’, ‘A New Start’ and the awesome final track ‘When it’s Over’.
With a debut album as good as ‘New Start’, Fastlane are due for big things this year. They have already been scheduled to play some quite big tours this year with the likes of Silverstein, Avenged Sevenfold and 4ft Fingers and have also appeared in big rock music magazines like Kerrang and Rocksound. The future is looking bright for Fastlane and if you like big pop-punk bands like Fall Out Boy or The Starting Line then you need to check this band out because this is one of the best pop-punk albums I have heard in quite a while.
