Band Of The Month
From First To Last - Aesthetic - Andy

Now I’m a big fan of From First To Last and their debut album ‘Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Bodycount’ was one of my favourite albums of last year so I decided to check out their old EP ‘Aesthetic’. The main thing that is different about this EP compared to the album is that it was done before current singer Sonny Moore joined the band so it was bound to be a bit different but does it shows signs of the great things that were to come from the band.

The EP starts off well with ‘Such A Tragedy’ which is a good track but doesn’t really make an impact until the breakdown at the end which sound amazing. ‘For The Taking is another good track but at this point you start to feel as though the song could be so much better is Sonny was singing. ‘Regrets and Romance’ is another great song and probably one of my favourites from the EP and it contains another great breakdown which definitely seems to be a strong point on this EP. There isn’t actually one bad song on ‘Aesthetic’, some of it can be a bit generic but it’s the final song on the EP that is the real treat here. ‘My Heart Your Hands’ is an amazing song and the band obviously know how good it is as it was the only song the band played on their recent UK tour with 36 Crazyfists that wasn’t on ‘Dear Diary…’. Everything about the song is amazing, the guitars, the drumming, the vocals, everything. People should buy the EP for this song alone.

I think at the point when ‘Aesthetic’ came out, From First To Last were seen as just seen as another screamo band trying to make amongst the masses but in ‘Dear Diary…’ they really developed their own sound and of course Sonny Moore has added so much to the band but he’s not the only reason why the band have gone on to become so popular because even on this EP, From First To Last were differentiating themselves from the pack more than bands like Story Of The Year or Dead Poetic. This is a solid EP and fans of From First To Last should pick it up because it has a couple of songs on there which need to be heard.
