Band Of The Month
Furthest Drive Home - Lost In Genre EP - Andy

Furthest Drive Home are a band that have been together for a few years now, they formed in 2003 in Farnham, Surrey and over the past year everything seems to be going their way. They were picked to appear on a Drive-Thru Records/Purevolume compilation album and were the only unsigned UK band to gain such a privilege and then towards the end of 2005 they appeared on the Brighton leg of the Taste Of Chaos tour alongside Funeral For A Friend, The Used & Killswitch Engage.

It’s easy to see why these guys are gaining such an interest in what they do. They do the emo/pop-punk thing very well and at their best they sound like they could easily fit into the Drive-Thru/Rushmore Records roster, the main problem may be that they fit in too easily. There isn’t a bad song on this 3 track EP but at the same time there is one song which is easily the best and that song is ‘Directors Cut’, it’s a summery slice of Pop-Punk in the same vein as Houston Calls and is guaranteed to get your feet tapping in no time.

The other two songs on the Lost In Genre EP are good but way too easily disposable. ‘Tower Over The Tallest’ is good and if the production was brought up to a higher quality then it has the potential to become great but ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ is just way too forgettable. The EP is a great platform for the band though to move on to big and better things but just because they’ve shared a stage with the likes of Funeral For A Friend & appeared on the same track listing as Fall Out Boy doesn’t mean that they’ve made it quite yet.
