Band Of The Month
Hopes Die Last - Aim For Tomorrow - Andy
Writer's Reference [Bonus Track]

Not many people will have heard of this band, well I only found out about them today so I’m guessing that not many people will have heard of them. Hopes Die Last are a promising pop-punk/emo band from Rome in Italy and Aim For Tomorrow is their first release and it’s an 8 song mini album. Even though the band are Italian they seem to have no problem with the art of the English language and all their vocals are in English which is lucky for me really.

The album is a bit up and down really as there are some real highlights on here such as the first song ‘What I Feel’ which is a brilliant slice of melodic pop-punk. It’s not all this good though as there are songs like ‘Spark Of Life’ and ‘We Still Run…’ which are your run of the mill emo/screamo nonsense, it’s not that I’m not a fan of the genre because I am but in today’s over saturated market it needs to be done really well to be appreciated. Back to the highlights which include ‘I Know That She’ll Come Back’ which is a beautifully melodic track where singer Marco’s vocals really shine as does the chunky guitar riff and there’s some great drumming on here display too. The final song ‘Waiting’ is my personal favourite though as it’s a great song to end proceedings on as it is fast and bouncy but at the same time the breakdown at the end with the cello/violin sounds brilliant.

As I had only heard of this band properly today then I’m really pleased as this is a really great record in places that will definitely win Hopes Die Last many a new fan. If they can stay away from the cliché screamo stuff and stick to the melodic pop-punk with a hint of emo that can be heard in songs like ‘What I Feel’ or ‘I Know That She’ll Come Back’ then they could be a band with a big future on their hands.
