Now a couple of years ago, after the release of their second album Shatterproof Is Not A Challenge, Hundred Reasons lost their major label record deal and it looked like it might be over for the band. It’s been 4 years now since their classic debut Ideas Above Our Station came out but now they’re back with a new deal with V2 Music and a new album Kill Your Own, which shows a real return to form for the band.
As soon as the first chorus of opener ‘Broken Hands’ it seems as though Hundred Reasons have found a whole new lease of life. After the slow and some times boring pace of their last album Shatterproof Is Not A Challenge, the new material has left me to breathe a sigh of relief as it seems as though Hundred Reasons may be back to their best. Songs like ‘Broken Hands’ and title track ‘Kill Your Own’ have the soaring choruses that remind you why you first loved this band and songs like ‘Live Fast, Die Ugly’ are just a full on attack on the listener but it’s the kind of attack you should enjoy.
Hundred Reasons still know how to do the melodic slower tracks though and there’s definite proof in one of the stand out tracks on the album ‘This Mess’ which is a dark and moody number where the contrasting vocals come across a real treat. If you ever liked a single Hundred Reasons song then I would definitely recommend getting this album. It may not be as classic a release as Ideas Above Our Station but it is Hundred Reasons back to what they do best and that is some of the best Post-Hardcore you could wish to hear.
