However you look at this release, you know that a lot of people are going to be asking ‘So are IATA anything like The Movielife?’ Unfortunately with IATA’s vocalist Vinnie Caruana’s former band The Movielife being as popular as they were, it’s always going to happen. The fact is that I Am The Avalanche are pretty much nothing like The Movielife apart from some vocal similarities (obviously) so lets get over it here and now shall we and get on with reviewing this album.
This is I Am The Avalanche’s debut album and it’s released through Drive Thru Records and isn’t the usual pop-punk/pop-emo release we’ve come to expect from Drive-Thru. This release is a lot more edgy than your average pop-punk record and some of the songs on this album are of real quality. The album kicks off well with ‘Dead And Gone’ and gets even better with ‘New Disaster’, which contains some great vocals and an awesome guitar riff. Then there’s the more laid back ‘Murderous’ which is catchy as hell and will have you singing along in no time.
‘I Took A Beating’ is another great track that makes you think that should have a beer in your hand and should get off your arse and have a dance because its just a fun time song. Another highlight is ‘This Is Dungeon Music’ which is also very catchy with the occasional group chants that accompanies the main vocals that encourage you to sing along, that will surely make it a hit with the fans. The catchiness doesn’t stop there though as ‘Emergency’ is another corker, it builds slowly but then when it hits the chorus it’s instantly addictive with the addition of the keyboard is a definite positive factor.
This is an album that deserves to be heard as it has some awesome songs on it such as ‘New Disaster’, ‘Murderous’ and ‘I Took A Beating’ to name a few. With I Am The Avalanche being on a label as popular as Drive-Thru, I’m sure this will get heard and IATA will surely build up quite a fan base from this album. Whether people will start to forget about a certain other band that vocalist Vinnie Caruana used to be in remains to be seen.
