Band Of The Month
June - If You Speak Any Faster - Andy
Writer's Reference [Bonus Track]

June are another band to come out of the Victory Records team and are in similar vein to one of their other bands Spitalfield and they actually both come from Chicago as well. However they can be forgiven for this when you find out that Victory are actually a Chicago based record label so unsurprisingly both band might end up on the label. ‘If You Speak Any Louder’ is the bands debut album and their label describes it as ‘an enchanting mix of pop, punk and rock, straightforward and infectious’, it sounds good but will it live up to those words.

Upon the first couple of listens to this album I have to admit that I didn’t really get it, they sounded like another run of the mill pop-punk mixed with emo, ten a penny kind of band. It was only on the forth or fifth listen that I found myself singing along and starting to really enjoy this record and wondering why it took me so long. Especially when songs like ‘Patrick’ and ‘Scandals and Scoundrels’ are so instantly catchy and likable. There isn’t actually a bad song on this album but at times it can all just blend into one and before you know it your on track 10 and your wondering how the hell you got there already.

June’s debut ‘If You Speak Any Louder’ is a good first effort with some really catchy songs on it but the main problem here is that there are an awful lot of bands around at the moment producing a similar kind of music to June and out of all of them I would rate June as better than the average but not amongst the best. If you’re a fan of bands like Spitalfield or Hidden In Plain View then I would definitely recommend checking out June as they may not be one of the best in their genre but they still have a hell of a lot to offer.
