I have to admit that I was quite excited about getting this release with Kill The Arcade being one of the most exciting Pop-Rock outfits about and they are joined on this Split EP by fellow Tree Brain Records recruitees Skys Day Off. Tree Brain Records are starting get themselves quite a strong reputation in the UK as they have a solid roster and I was interested to see if for (1) Can Kill The Arcade continue to deliver songs as strong as the ones that were on their Debut EP, and (2) To see what Skys Day Off have to offer.

Reading-based Kill The Arcade kick things off with probably their catchiest song to date, ‘There’s No Such Thing As Healthy Competition’ is a true gem and I guarantee you’ll find yourself trying to sing along to the chorus upon your first listen. Their second track ‘Navigators, Start Navigating’ isn’t quite as strong but still good enough to keep that toe tapping going and has a great little breakdown towards the end.

Skys Day Off kick off their half of the EP just as strongly with ‘Until My Eyes Awake’ which is a bouncy little number that, although isn’t a million miles from sounding like a lot of other ‘emo’ bands, has enough to make Skys Day Off instantly likeable. The EP ends with SDO’s second track ‘Cheap Lines For Cheap Girls’ which is again a very likeable and well-written song.

What’s great about this EP is that it isn’t just one band carrying the other. Both bands make a great account of themselves and both have songs with real depth and if you’ve never heard either of these bands before then you really should get this EP as this is Independent UK Pop-Punk/Emo at it’s finest.
