I first heard of this London four-piece (Kill The Arcade) when I saw their name on the same bill as one of my favourite local Edinburgh bands. I was interested to see what their sound was like and ever since seeing them that night, their infectious songs have been stuck in my head.
Its hard to place Kill The Arcades music into a category but I guess it would mostly fall into the pop-punk category although with a slight edge which a lot of bands around the UK seem to have emerged with in the last few years but many failing to impress or hold a torch to a style that clearly belongs to the U.S. However I think Kill The Arcade are about to join the few UK bands that have pulled the pop-punk style off and made a name for themselves. Kill The Arcade’s sound and style isn’t unique or anything but they do stand out from a lot of these bands by just pure quality, well structured songs with stand out riffs and not the usual ‘shallow boy loves girl’ lyrics. KTA produce lyrics that are more evolved and complex which is a breath a fresh air.
Kill The Arcade’s latest offering ‘This Is What We Call A Conflict’ is their debut EP, for which they recently shoot a video for the title track, consists of an instrumental intro and is followed up by four quality songs, all songs as strong as the one before. It makes it hard to pick a favourite but ‘Ignorance Doesn’t Suite You’ stands out for me with a keyboard intro that merges into the guitar riffs and drums beats and the powerful vocals that bounce with melody throughout the song that produce a chorus that is as addictive as they come.
I think Kill The Arcade are one of the most exciting bands of the moment, from this CD I can see a future extension to Kill The Arcade’s already solid fan base. This band are really starting to make a name for themselves and has left me waiting and wondering what the future holds for Kill The Arcade, undoubtedly big things. I look forward to watching this band progress and grow. I hope these boys can move on to a bigger scale of success in the future.
