Great. Another fashionably American band with a violent word in their name. Time toput my flat cap on and don my best black zip-up hoodie. Or maybe not.

‘The Bridge’ is one of the most uplifting albums I have heard in a while. I don’t mean they are a sickly sweet pop punk band, I mean that Letterkills have the ability to write a range of addictive melodies without being thrown in the New Found Glory and Simple Plan bargain bucket.

Signing to Island after being offered many a record deal, Letterkills are a band who have pretty much had it made from the start. Apart from having real, honest and raw talent, guitarist Dustin Lovelis went to school with Finch’s Randy Strohmeyer, a fact which could hardly damage an up and coming band’s career. They’re also a band you can play to your mum; nice practising Christian boys who like to meet their fans straight after their gigs.

‘Brand New Man’, the stand-out track on the album, is the new ‘Beating Heart Baby’, with ‘Carry You’ and ‘Don’t Believe’ drawing comparisons with crowd pleasers by Dopamine and Story Of The Year. Letterkills are an underrated band who know how to write excitable tunes with bitter lyrics so even the most hardcore 14 year old is allowed to like them and still be deemed socially acceptable. Ballads such as ‘Clock Is Down’ will draw a blog entry entitled “I’d like to say a few things to you about the way I feel inside”. ‘The Bridge’ is one of those rare albums where every song is worth some sort of praise.

Please, whatever you do, do not dismiss this album the first time you hear it…it’s a grower if ever I heard one. It is also fun for all the family, the hardcore cousin, the emo brother, the pop punk niece…even buy a copy for your long-haired, metal loving uncle for the guitar solo on ‘Hold My Heart (part 2)’ but make sure you also buy him the newest, state of the art air guitar to go with it.
