Band Of The Month
Lostprophets - Liberation Transmission - Andy

So here we are 18 months on from when Lostprophets were last in the spotlight. Have they been on holiday for all that time? The band spent a lot of time in 2005 in Hawaii, Vancouver and Los Angeles writing and recording their 3rd album. America is of course not a new thing to them now though. Two members of the band currently live in California, another two live in London and the remaining member still lives with his parent’s back home in Wales. It seems confusing how a band can operate with such distance between them but this seems to have not disturbed their stance as a band whatsoever.

Dare I say Lostprophets have gone emo? For this their 3rd album, they've again changed their image. Album number one ‘The Fake Sound of Progress’ saw them as Welsh boys trying to break into the British rock scene and get labelled as a Nu-Metal Boyband. Their second outing ‘Start Something’ was a bit more pop but still contained the metal influences and summer ballads reigned throughout. This album however at first looks like they're going for the Fall Out Boy scene, however much they may suggest otherwise. Whatever category you want to put this album in, it ticks all the right boxes.

From the moment the opening drum beat rackets through your eardrums you know this is going to be a big one. From track to track it screams "hit" - its just that good and with tracks as amazing as ‘A Town Called Hypocrisy’ and ‘ Broken Hearts, Torn Up Letters ’ how could you fail to fall in love with this album. Catching hooks makes it feel like you need more and more of this. Most tracks are brilliant although later in the album there is the odd track (‘Heaven For The Weather, Hell For The Company’) that is easily skipable. Lyrically it’s the same as their last record, they seem to be fans of the motto "If it’s not broken then don’t try to fix it", however a little progression in this area would be nice.

Lead singer Ian Watkins has clearly stated that the don’t want to be a "teeny band like Fall Out Boy" or anything like it, however this may backfire on him and his fellow band mates. Yet again, if you hated them before this you'll probably despise them just as much now. If you liked them before this, you'll love this. Let’s face it, how many UK bands are there around at the moment that could do what Lostprophets have done, however much you may wish to think otherwise - there aren’t many.
