Band Of The Month
Matter Of Distance - Six Months In Eternity EP - Andy

Let’s face it, at the moment there are a lot of bands that are coming out of the US and UK scene that all sound very similar and make it far too easy to compare them to their peers, luckily Matter of Distance is not one of those bands. MOD is a 5-piece, hailing from Cambridgeshire and they describe themselves as ‘an intricate mix of melodic, emotional, metal induced punk’ which is pretty much right on the money.

‘Six Months in Eternity’ is a seven track EP that I would personally describe as Fastlane-esque UK Punk that is set to blow away the UK underground this year. All the songs are delivered with such precision and are of such high quality that the skip button just becomes totally unnecessary. Opener ‘Case Of The Better Half’ is two and a half minutes of awesome pop-punk, while ‘Mask’ is an amazing written ode to all the struggling bands out there and a swipe at all the major labels putting out shit music: with lyrics like “ Every time they fly, They get struck straight down, All these bands are great, But not a deal insight”, how can you not love it. The only thing that lets the band down slightly is the vocals, they aren’t of the highest standard but then again they are by no means bad and the singer sings every note with such passion that it really isn’t that big of a deal.

There are a hand full of bands doing the rounds in the UK at the moment, that really do offer something that little bit special, have that extra ‘zing’ and offer a bit more individuality, and I think MOD are one of those bands. This band has personality which, ultimately, shines through in their music; they have talent… real talent. I’m sure that Matter of Distance will make the transition from openers to headliners as the year goes on. Give them the chance and I think they may well surprise you.
