Band Of The Month
Meet Me In St. Louis - And With the Right Kind Of Eyes... - Matt

One thing that is definitely not confusing about the debut EP from the Guildford rockers is the amount of talent and energy they deliver with their music, which hits you like a wave crashing down on the shore. The full title is somewhat more baffling however. Officially named ‘And with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark the place where the wave rolls back’ isn't the most conventional of titles and this is certainly an allegory for the band as a whole. For a band that seem to be permanently on tour, there is no lack of vitality and although it has been expressed in a way which has been explored by many bands previously, the record also uses its extremely personal touch to make it a cut above the rest.

'Tired of Shouting and Beatdowns?' is something that the band marks themselves by, a simple and subtle motto which their music clearly represents; an encouraging direction into an experimental genre. Each track is individual, never once does the listener feel “have I heard this one before?” but yet each follows similar patterns of unpredictability and passion. Long, informative titles are experienced from the outset with track one of five: We need to act like we don’t need this shit, then they give us this shit for free mixed with flawless guitar solos and bouncy vocals. The following two tracks follow a similar pattern, all having the constantly on repeat factor. What can instantly be recovered from the wreckage of these opening tracks is they continue to toy the listener with expertly designed musical violence.

The band breaking the conventions of never end a CD with an acoustic track shows signs of disappointment, however 'You said your finger was a gun' (Track 5) is anything but a disheartening end to a solid first effort; merely another example of pure unpredictability from the Surrey boys. The future looks bright for the five-piece, all have reported back flabbergasted as their live act consistently impresses even the most unlikely of characters. With already being short listed for such accolades as Kerrang’s Best Newcomer, the sky is the limit for these ambassadors of the new UK rock scene, but clichés aside; this will not be the last time you hear of them.
