Band Of The Month
Men, Women & Children - Men, Women & Children - Andy

Alright when I first stuck on this album and took my first listen, I have to admit I felt a bit dirty. I felt like my friends were going to walk in on me listening to this and ask me why the fuck I’m listening to Scissor Sisters. That’s just how camp this album is, it makes you feel like you need to stick all your t-shirts on an extra hot wash and make them all as tight as they could possibly be.

I have to admit that I really didn’t get it, all the other reviews I’d read were singing their praises & all of them mention Panic! At The Disco at some point and these guys are even supporting Panic! on their current UK Tour. These guys are pretty much nothing like Panic! but they seem to have been put into the Dance-Punk genre just because they feature former Glassjaw guitarist Todd Weinstock. Men, Women & Children have already proved to be a hit within the scene and can only continue to get bigger but it is hard to take them seriously when they sing songs like ‘Monkey Monkee Men’.

However, despite some of those points, there are some songs of real quality on this album that do make you want to get up and well…. Dance. ‘Dance In My Blood’ is definitely a grower, ‘Lightening Strikes Twice In New York’ is catchy as hell but my favourite on this album has to be ‘Messy’ which is just a could be dance floor classic if ever I heard one. There are of course also songs that will never grow on me such as the above mentioned ‘Monkey Monkee Men’, ‘The Name Of The Train Is The Hurricane’ and ‘Sell Your Money’ which are all frankly terrible.

So all in all, by the end of my Men,Women & Children experience, my mind had changed partially by some songs of real quality but I’m still not ready to come out of the closet quite yet. This album is a case of a few highs but too many lows. I would recommend just downloading the songs like ‘Messy’ and saving your money for something a little less camp.
