Right now everything is looking pretty exciting for My Awesome Compilation, it’s not long until the release of their debut album ‘Actions’ which looks set to finally break the band, made up from two sets of brothers. Their last release, the mini album ‘The View Is Amazing’ was an amazing release and won the band many new fans across the UK as did supporting tours this past 6 months with the likes of Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack and Reggie And The Full Effect. So with ‘Actions’ is it finally My Awesome Compilation’s time to shine and for them to become the next British band to break into the mainstream.
The album kicks off with ‘You Need Discipline’ which is a great rock song and really fulfils early expectations. It is a lot harder than anything on their last release but it is great stuff and they have still kept a very unique sound and the duel vocals from Chris Driver and Darius Cobb are really well executed. Next up is the first single ‘Put Up A Fight’ which is another amazing song and perfect as a first single as it instantly catchy and a beautiful song that will gain the band a lot of attention I’m sure. ‘Gave You Everything’ is another great song and really shows a Get Up Kids influence. ‘Set To Go’ is a really bouncy number with great guitar riffs, great drumming and some great vocals from Chris Driver. ‘What You Do’ is the first slower song on the album and is the first real disappointment as it never really goes anywhere.
The title track ‘Actions’ gets things back on track though and proves to be one of the best tracks on the album. It is a brilliantly melodic and catchy slice of emo-pop-rock and the vocals “Actions speak much louder, soon I’ll forget, soon you’ll regret, ever asking” just sounds so amazing. ‘Longshot’ and ‘Sirens’ are two more really catchy songs that deserve to be heard and then there’s the remake of an old MAC classic ‘As Always’ which is better in some ways but not as good in others. ‘Asking For Trouble’ is really different and sounds like it could be a Hundred Reasons song which isn’t a bad thing by any means but its just a lot harder than anything we’ve heard from My Awesome Comp in the past. The album ends on ‘Awake’ which is another really different song with its marching drum beat and distorted vocals but it’s a really cool and fun song to end things on.
My Awesome Compilation have definitely matured since their last release ‘The View Is Amazing’ and have really developed more of a unique sound. Don’t get me wrong I love ‘The View Is Amazing’ but they really have taken strides onwards and upwards with ‘Actions’. The production is much better for a start and the songs are just a lot stronger this time around. I think that MAC could go on to become as successful as other UK bands like Hundred Reasons or A. With songs as good as ‘Put Up A Fight’, ‘You Need Discipline’ and the title track ‘Actions’, this album needs to be heard so please go and get a copy because in a couple of months these guys will be one of hottest bands in the UK.
