Band Of The Month
Dopamine Interview 30.05.05 - Jess

Pep-Rock: Hi there, can you tell me your names and what you do in the band?

Iain: I’m Ian and I play guitar.

Sam: I’m Sam and I play drums.

Pep-Rock: Obviously Dopamine are pretty busy at the moment what with your headline show at the Barfly last week, the current Further Seems Forever tour and then the Underoath tour next week…how’s life on the road treating you?

Iain: Yeah, it’s good, touring’s always good.

Sam: It’s good to be back because we had November to March time off to finish the album. Touring’s always good.

Pep-Rock: Any interesting tour stories so far?

Sam: The back doors of our van are broken which isn’t too good when trying to get stuff out of the van. I don’t know if that’s interesting though.

Iain: We played this show and it was in a boxing club and this kid kept causing aggro in the audience, trying to get on stage, then he tried to spit at Neil so the bouncers chucked him outside. Everyone else at that gig was awesome, it was just that little shit that caused the problems. It was quite funny though.

Pep-Rock: How’s response to the album ‘Auditioning My Escape Plan’ been so far?

Sam: Yeah it’s been really good, the major magazines really liked.

Iain: Yeah we’ve had some really good reviews which is good seeing as they slated the EP.

Pep-Rock: Is the song title ‘Destroy Something Beautiful’ taken from the film ‘Fight Club’?

Iain: Yeah, we got stuck for song titles so we flicked through Neil’s DVD collection. There’s no deep meaning in it really…sorry that’s a really disappointing answer to that question, I could have come up with something really intelligent there.

Pep-Rock: What’s your favourite song to play live?

Iain: I love playing ‘Save Yourself’.

Sam: I love ‘United By Fear’.

Pep-Rock: If you could form a covers band, which band would you choose to cover?

Iain: Tough question. Probably one of the obvious ones like Silverchair.

Sam: Jimmy Eat World are my favourite band but I’d have to go for Nirvana because they were the first band that got me into playing music.

Iain: Pearl Jam would be cool too.

Pep-Rock: Who would you most hate to be stuck in a lift with?

Iain: Someone with that fucking crazy frog ringtone on their phone.

Sam: Or J-Lo. I hate her.

Iain: Nah, crazy frog all the way.

Sam: I think we might write a song with that ringtone in it for the next album.

Pep-Rock: Are Dopamine writing or recording anything soon?

Iain: We’ve got a few songs, we might start trying out some of our new material on this tour.

Sam: It all depends on time though because on this current tour (supporting Further Seems Forever) we’re in rotation with Aconite Thrill, one night we’ll be main headliners, the next we’ll be third on the bill, so it all depends on how much time we get given to show people what we’ve got.

Pep-Rock: Any closing words?

Iain: Come see us live because you might like it, you never know. Also thanks for not asking the usual ‘how did you guys meet’ question, I’m sick of that!
