Band Of The Month
Hidden In Plain View Interview 31.10.04 - Andy

Pep-Rock: Could you please tell us your name and what you do in the band?

Rob: I’m Rob, I play guitar. This is Spencer, he plays drums.

Spencer: Hi, I’m Spencer, I play drums.

Pep-Rock: Where did u come up with the name of the band?

Rob: Well we were just looking for a name and Joe, our singer, came up with it. It’s just a name really, no real story behind it.

Pep-Rock: How did you guys all meet?

Spencer: We met in the army. Yeah that’s what happened, we met in the army.

Rob: I met Joe & Chris early on, about 4 years ago, I was in a band with Joe previously & I was in 2 bands at the same time & then Chris got involved & things started sounding really good so we said “yeah, let’s do this”.

Pep-Rock: So how did the Drive-thru Records deal come about?

Spencer: That was before my time.

Rob: Well we kept on sending demo tapes to Richard, who’s the owner, and we just kept on sending the demo’s and they liked a couple of the songs so we started talking about a deal.

(Gabe from Midtown walks over, picks up my Dictaphone and joins the interview)

Gabe: Yo, I can suck my own cock, and I do it, often.

Spencer: He really can, I’ve seen him do it on the back of the bus.

(Gabe mumbles something & walks off to continue partying with the rest of the Midtown guys)

Pep-Rock: So how you guys enjoying the tour in the UK?

Spencer: The tours awesome, I’d like to say thanks to Midtown for taking us on tour. Actually I got a funny story actually from the first night of the tour, up in Manchester, they hazed me. You know what hazing is, like initiating somebody.

Pep-Rock: Oh right.

Spencer: Gabe pulled his dick out and shoved it in my face while Heath (Midtown) held me down and it was awesome.

Pep-Rock: So it was a good experience then?

Spencer: Oh definitely

Rob: It’s always a blast coming over here.

Pep-Rock: What’s the best and worst thing about being in the UK?

Spencer: The best thing about being in the UK, for me it’s just getting to visit another country. To be able to play 3500 miles away from home and to have people to be into it, it’s really cool.

Rob: I love the UK, I think it’s awesome. It’s funny because touring in the UK for like 3 weeks seems like touring in the US for 3 months because of the currency exchange and all the differences, we’re still not quite used to it yet. It’s the same language but it’s still so different you know and sometimes it can get hard. One of my favourite things about the UK is the night life over here is awesome, although that’s also the worst thing about it because we always feel so tried the next morning, just getting no sleep and too much drinking you know.

Pep-Rock: Tonight’s your last night over here, so when are you guys next coming back over here?

Rob: We actually suppose to be coming back over here in march to do another Drive-Thru UK Invasion tour which should be awesome.

Pep-Rock: What can we expect from the new album, is it going to be in a similar vein to ‘Bleed To You’?

Rob: It’s really diverse I think, there’s some soft songs, there’s some hard songs.

Spencer: It’s a really mature record, it’s easily the best thing we’ve ever done.

Rob: It’s just really diverse, something for everybody.

Pep-Rock: What bands are you guys listening to at the moment?

Rob: Midtown, Of Course. I really like the newJimmy Eat World record.

Spencer: At the moment I’m listening to Less Than Jake, the other day I bought HIM – Razorblade Romance & Hello Rockview by Less Than Jake, I love Less Than Jake.

Rob: I don’t know, I don’t really listen to music.

Spencer: He really doesn’t, Rob really doesn’t like music.

Pep-Rock: So it’s Halloween today, what’s the best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn?

Rob: What’s your best Halloween costume?

Spencer: I don’t know, let me think about this.

Rob: I didn’t really know him till like a year ago so I’m finding out this stuff for the first time too.

Spencer: Hmmm (thinking sound)

Rob: Oh I dressed up as a woman at one time and I was really hot.

Spencer: I dressed up as a Washer and Dryer at one time.

Rob: Yeah hedressed up as a Washer and Dryer and then in the evening changed into Pee-Wee Herman.

Spencer: Oh in Sophomore year, I went as James Earl Jones, he’s an actor, it was great. Actually once I bought a pigs head for $15 from a meat market in town and stuck it on the end of a broom stick and just walked around with that and my friends stuck newspaper on their faces and called themselves Crazy Newspaper boy. Another friend just held up a protractor and called himself protractor man.

Pep-Rock: So what’s the plan for Hidden In Plain View in 2005?

Rob: What’s the plan?

Spencer: To rule the earth.

Rob: Well the albums out early in the year so get that out and the probabily just tour for the rest of the year. We’ll be back over in the UK on the Drive-Thru UK Invasion tour.

Pep-Rock: Do you guys having last comments or closing statements?

Rob: Thank You England for a wonderful tour and thank you Midtown for bringing us.

Spencer: & check out our record in February.

Pep-Rock: Cheers
