Pep-Rock: Could you please tell us your name and what you do in the band? |
Nick: Nick!! Errm I play guitar as well as doing as many vocals as I am aloud to do. |
| |
Pep-Rock: Where did u come up with the name of the band? |
Nick: The name question is a rather boring story, sorry, but seeing as you asked I am happy to tell you. There was this girl in another band, the others in the band all hated her and eventually kicked her out. Luke (drums) then made a joke about the band now being Not Katies. It seemed like a good idea for a band name and has stuck ever since. Some of us really like the name, and some of us don't. |
| |
Pep-Rock: How did you guys all meet? |
Nick: At University in Southampton , although I joined the guys later I must add. The other were all on film studies together and wanted to start a band. I met them in a seedy strip joint in Soho ...oh how I wish. |
| |
Pep-Rock: What’s your current label situation after leaving Deckcheese Records? |
Nick: We're taking things pretty slow at the moment and although we have spoken to several labels now we haven't signed anything. We hope to sign with a label in the New Year, however for the moment our priority is to write new songs and that’s where our focus is at the moment. |
| |
Pep-Rock: How’s the new stuff coming along and how long until we see a 2nd album? |
Nick: After our other guitarist left recently we hit a slump where we were unable to all agree on a musical direction. This put a downer on everyone’s attitude towards the band and things looked bleak for a while. We have now had a 'shake up' in the band, Ewan has gone from bass to keys and we have now found a new sound that has provided us with more musical avenues. We hope a new album would be out in 2005 as for a date I couldn't say but we're very excited about our new material, maybe you should be too :-) |
| |
Pep-Rock: How are the new songs like ‘Play Dead’ & ‘What You Stand For’ being received? |
Nick: Yeah the crowds have been very receptive. As I mentioned earlier though we have found a 'new' sound for ourselves and our new songs sounds nothing like 'Play Dead' or 'What You Stand For'. However they are still cool songs and we love playing them. |
| |
Pep-Rock: So what can we expect from your set tonight? |
Nick: We'll be playing all our new songs from a 4 track demo we recorded in the summer. Obviously we'll be playing stuff of our first album and the EP, oh and there’s a cheeky surprise including the support band Second Monday!!! |
| |
Pep-Rock: Alright, this Sunday coming up its Halloween, what your best Halloween costume ever? |
Nick: Ha ha, ah, this may not sound funny when I tell it but believe me it was funny to us at the time. We were in Tescos the night before Halloween, filling up with sandwiches for the long drive to Manchester the next day. Anyways there were these masks in Tescos and we went through all these masks trying them on and basically pissing ourselves, however staff got annoyed with us and told us to stop. We played the show the nest night in the masks, even the crowd liked it, ah we're funny guys. Sorry if that sounded lame, ha ha. Oh and a couple of years ago Rich our front man, dressed as Gene Simmons from kiss, oh you had to see it. |
| |
Pep-Rock: So what’s the plan for Not Katies in 2005? |
Nick: A lot of writing, I know I have gone on about this but that’s really what we're spending our time on now, we want to write a really good record that we've taken our time over and sounds really fooking great. We'll be doing some tours too, we have a tour coming up in Jan with an up and coming act, but I can't say too much apart from watch this space. |
| |
Pep-Rock: What could be the greatest thing to happen to you guys in 2005? |
Nick: To either go back to Europe or maybe the States, we still speak to bands from the states and so you never know, that would be really cool though. Europe and the states rock!! Not as much as the UK though....of course. |
| |
Pep-Rock: Do you guys having last comments or closing statements? |
Nick: Always buy CD's at shows, how else can bands afford petrol and pies? |
| Pep-Rock: Cheers |
