Pep-Rock: Hi, for the purpose of the interview could you please tell us your name and what you do in the band? |
Fred: Hey I’m Fred Mascherino and I play guitar and sing and scream for the band |
| |
Pep-Rock: Where did you come up with the name of the band? |
Fred: We got the name, well Eddie got the name from a band that no longer exists that was a long island band and he just liked the song a lot and stole the name. |
| |
Pep-Rock: How’s everything been for you guys since the release of your 2 nd album ‘Where You Want To Be’? |
Fred: Well it’s been really crazy, it’s been almost unbelievable the amount of attention and the fun that we’ve been having. Since that record came out it’s just been bigger than ever and the band just keeps growing. We like that to kid around that someone’s playing a trick on us and we’re going to wake up tomorrow and they will just be laughing and it just wasn’t real because it just seems that way because it’s so good. So yeah we’re really happy about everything and we’re looking forward to writing more stuff real soon |
| |
Pep-Rock: So how’s the UK Tour going so far with My Chemical Romance? |
Fred: Oh man, boy do we ask the right bands to come out and play with us. We been friends with those guys for years and the first time we toured with them was about 2 years ago and they’ve been really good friends of ours and we wanted them to come out on tour with us again no matter what and now the fact that they are doing so great people are like how did you know to ask them to tour with you but we just brought them because they are a band that we liked both musically and personally. So it’s just been awesome and we also really liked playing with Communique because their new record is a great record to listen to. |
| |
Pep-Rock: What’s the best and worst thing about coming to the UK? |
Fred: Ha ha, the worst thing is definitely the weather and the best thing is the shows. We’ve played in other places like our hometowns and strongholds it’s always really good but everyone in the UK has been wild crowds and really loud, loads of people singing along and a lot of movement in the crowd and moshing. It’s just a really fun place to come play. |
| |
Pep-Rock: What bands are you guys all listening to at the moment? |
Fred: I like My Chemical Romance, Coheed and Cambria, I like a band called Engine Down, The Weakerthans. I also have a lot of older stuff that I listen to and have been listening to for like 10 years, stuff like The Descendants and The Bad Brains. |
| |
Pep-Rock: Obviously this is a big tour that your doing at the moment with My Chemical Romance as all the dates have sold out, what for you guys would be the best two bands touring together to make the perfect combination? |
Fred: Oh man, that’s a good question. I would say The Mars Volta because I like them a lot, so I’d like to see The Mars Volta do a tour with Coheed and Cambria, that would be sweet. |
| |
Pep-Rock: I’ve noticed that you guys like to do your bit for charity such as to appear on the In Honor Cancer Compilation & more recently doing the Tsunami Relief Concert and also donating an autographed tour backdrop for auction. Is the stuff like this that you do for charity important to you guys? |
Fred: Yeah I think doing what we do in music is something that we have put everything into it and really live it and I think by living it we then want to give meaning to our lives. We don’t want to just go around playing for a dollar you know, we want to have a purpose and when we see something going on that we care about and I think everyone in the world wanted to be about to do something about the tsunami if they could you know. So we were offered the opportunity to help and we just jumped at the chance really, I think most people would. It also helps us to feel what we are doing is deeper and it might actually make a difference over time. |
| |
Pep-Rock: So what does the rest of 2005 hold in store for TBS? |
Fred: Well we have a spring tour that we are planning but its not confirmed yet but is going to be in the US with Jimmy Eat World so that’s probably going to happen. Then we are talking about doing some more writing, I mean we are still going to be pushing ‘Where You Want To Be’ for a little longer but we are looking forward to making some more music in the future. |
Pep-Rock: You coming back to the UK at all this year? |
Fred: Oh yeah well it will probably happen at the end of the summer going into the fall because we want to spend some time in the summer writing. |
Pep-Rock: What about Reading Festival, could you be back for that? |
Fred: We would love to do it again, that was by far the funnest show we’ve ever played. So yeah I would love to do that again this year but I don’t know if they have repeat bands or if they switch it up every year. |
Pep-Rock: No they usually have a few bands back again. |
Fred: Oh yeah well in that case I’m there |
| |
Pep-Rock: Do you have any last comments or closing statements? |
Fred: Well I just want to say that we feel very fortunate that the people in the UK have embraced our music so much. It really means the world to us and blows us away that people over here can understand us just as well as the people back home and we won’t ever forget that and we will consistently come back here and have fun with everyone. So I just want to say a big thanks to everybody. |
| Pep-Rock: Cheers |
