Pep-Rock: Hi, could you please tell us your names and what you do in the band? |
Dan: Hi I’m Dan, I sing and dance and stuff. |
Duncan: My name’s Dunc and I play bass. |
Adam: Hi I’m Adam, I play guitar. |
Tom: I’mTom and I play guitar and do a bit of singing |
| |
Pep-Rock: How did u come up with the name of the band? |
Dan: We just came up with a shortlist of names really didn’t we? |
Tom: Yeah just loads of ideas that we came up and all our friends had came up with. |
Dan: Then we just voted and came up with The Hurt Process. |
Tom: Then we found out it was the name of an album title by Boxer, which makes us look like we have some hardcore potential. |
| |
Pep-Rock: How did you guys all meet? |
Dan: Well me, Tom and Dunc were at school together and we all got together. Darren, our drummer, was in another band from Brighton who used to put shows on. Adam was in a band called Tiny Elvis who we played with as The Hurt Process down in Frome, down in where ever the hell that is and various people left the band and joined the band so here we are, left with Adam unfortunately. |
Adam: Thanks buddy |
Dan: Love u baby |
| |
Pep-Rock: How’s the last year been for you guys since ‘Drive By Monologue’ was released? |
Tom: It’s been a pretty cool year actually, the band’s gone through some pretty fundamental changes with Mark leaving half way through the warped tour and then it not working out with Alun as soon as we came back. So really we’ve just been on the road touring hard and supporting ‘Drive By Monologue’, then we took a break towards the end of last year to really work on the new stuff and that happens as soon Adam joined the band and since Adam has been in the band, things have really clicked into place. The whole machine has worked a bit better and we’ve all had a lot more input into the song writing for the next record and its been sort of all five of us kicking in. |
Duncan: We’ve all been a lot happier too. |
Tom: Yeah |
Adam: We’re all really excited about the next record, it’s a big change for the band and I think it’s a change in a positive direction as far as we are all concerned. |
Dan: As you’ll hear tonight |
| |
Pep-Rock: Your going to start recording your 2 nd album soon, what’s it gonna be like? |
Dan: We start the day after we finish this tour, the day we come back from Holland we head straight into the studio, doing the next record for a month I think it is. |
Pep-Rock: How’s it gonna sound? |
Dan: Metal |
Duncan: Metal |
Tom: Heavy Metal |
Dan: It’s gonna be good |
Adam: Still the poppy choruses but we are really trying to rock it. |
Pep-Rock: I’ve heard a couple of the new tracks on Purevolume and it sounds good |
Dan: Yeah those songs kind of show the direction we are going |
Tom: Yeah, we are really pushing ourselves as well I think, musically we’ve come so far individually. So now we can really push what we are doing and try and experiment and just have more fun with it really. We’re not worrying about the next record, the songs have been written. I think now we all making a record that I know that I am personally going to be so proud of. |
Adam: Yeah exactly. I think that’s the same for all of us, we are going to be super proud of this record. |
Tom: Yeah no matter what anyone thinks, if people aren’t into it then so fucking what, I’m gonna have that record and we all are and we are going to be really impressed with what we managed to achieve. |
| |
Pep-Rock: How’s the co-headlining tour with Underoath going? |
Dan: Well every date has sold out apart from a couple. |
Tom: Yeah I think it was just Newcastle and Aberdeen that didn’t sell out. |
Dan: It’s been insane |
Adam: It’s a great tour for us because there have been some great crowds and especially with us playing new material and people are really getting into it and it’s just been awesome. |
Tom: and just all the bands on this tour have been amazing, Silverstein are cunts but apart from that. |
Dan: Especially Josh and Neil |
(Josh and Neil from Silverstein laugh) |
Tom: and they poo in bags |
Dan: Didn’t u have two dumps in bags this morning |
(Josh and Neil from Silverstein continue to laugh) |
| Dan: Anyway next question |
| |
Pep-Rock: Does it feel weird doing a UK tour with all American bands? |
Adam: It’s great for me (Adam being the one American member of the band) |
Tom: Well they take the piss out of us a lot, I’ll give them that. We are just used to touring with American bands because the first tour we was with Norma Jean and Mewithoutyou, they are both from the states. Then we toured with Zebrahead and Taking Back Sunday, both from the states. Then we toured with Linea 77 and Waterdown. Now we are touring with Underoath and Roses Are Red from the states and Silverstein who are of course Canadians. So we just used to being the only English band. And of course we did the warped tour which was us and about a zillion non UK bands. It’s really good though to tour with bands from different places. |
Dan: They all diss our food though. |
Tom: They do all diss our food |
Duncan: They fucking hate English food. |
Tom: We did have an amazing meal today though. |
| |
Pep-Rock: You guys were the 1 st band from the UK to play the Warped Tour in the US, how was that? |
Tom: Apparently so, but then we’ve been told different things by different people saying that The Fight had done it the year before us. We were one of the first anyway. |
Adam: We are the only band that people know have done it. |
| |
Pep-Rock: So what’s the plan for The Hurt Process in 2005? |
Dan: Get the new album done and just tour. |
Adam: Tour, tour, tour |
Dan: Yep |
Adam: We are gonna try and go back over to the states and tour and try and work that market, to see if it treats us well. Then back over to Europe and tour the UK a couple of times. |
Tom: Yeah a couple of UK tours with Europe and America in between. Maybe over to Japan as well. |
| |
Pep-Rock: Do you guys having last comments or closing statements? |
Dan: Don’t eat the mayonnaise from kebab shops. |
Tom: and also check out this new album when it’s out, even if you really hated the last one. Check it out because it’s gonna surprise you. It really is. We now have a different vocal partnership and different song writing partnerships. It gonna be a good record, so check it out. |
| Pep-Rock: Cheers |
