Andy (Pep-Rock): Hi, could you please tell me your name and what you do in the band?
|
Spencer: Hey my name’s Spencer and I’m the singer in Underoath. |
| |
Andy (Pep-Rock): How’s the past year been for you guys since the release of ‘They’re Only Chasing Safety’? |
Spencer: Its been crazy, since the record came out we’ve been constantly touring and we’ve gone from playing smaller shows to playing a lot bigger shows and it has also allowed us to be able to come to different places like the UK and to be able to play headline shows over here is amazing. |
| |
Dave (Pep-Rock): How do the shows you guys play in the UK compare to your US ones?
|
Spencer: Well our shows in the US are a lot bigger than over here but when we do come over to the UK and play shows the kids are always really hyped because they don’t get to see us as much as the US kids and just to get the chance to come over here and play shows is incredible |
| |
Dave (Pep-Rock): Are your excited about playing Download Festival this weekend? |
Spencer: Yeah man it should be a blast. As I said whenever we get to come over to the UK and play shows its always awesome and playing Download has given us the chance to come back over and while we were over here we’ve had the chance to play some more headline shows. |
| Dave (Pep-Rock): Is it the first time you’ve played headline shows in the UK ? |
Spencer: Well last time we were over here we did a joint headline tour with The Hurt Process but we ended up headlining almost every night, and almost every show sold out too, it was awesome. |
| |
Andy (Pep-Rock): What’s the best and the worst thing about coming over to the UK? |
Spencer: The worst thing is definitely the 10 hour flight with is really hard and something that we don’t look forward to but the best thing is coming to a new country and playing the shows and getting to meet all the different people and just to experience a different culture. Even though I’m not sure if you can call it a different culture over here but whenever you go somewhere new and different it’s really cool. |
| |
Dave (Pep-Rock): How do you prepare before you go onstage?
|
Spencer: I just get nervous usually but it’s the good kind of nervous, like the anticipation to get out there and go crazy on stage. |
| |
Dave (Pep-Rock):
What are the best and the worst things about being in the music industry? |
Spencer: The best thing is being in a band getting to play shows and do what we love. The worst thing is the business side of things. I don’t like that stuff, I try and distance myself from that side as much as possible and just concentrate on the music and playing shows. |
| |
Dave (Pep-Rock): How do you feel about the ‘Christian rock band’ tag that some people put on you guys? |
Spencer: We’re are a Christian band and that is very important to all of us, but we not just in the Christian market. We’re in a rock band in the rock market and we just happen to be a Christian band. We don’t want to limit ourselves to just being in the Christian market just because we’re a Christian band. We don’t want any limitation on who our music can be listened by but we are a Christian band and that is what we believe. |
| |
Dave (Pep-Rock): How does your religion affect your on tour activities? |
Spencer: It doesn’t because we just live our lives like any average Christian dude would so we just do what we would if we were back home. Being in a rock band doesn’t just make you instantly lose your believes even if others are doing that stuff. We don’t preach, we just say what we believe. |
| |
Andy (Pep-Rock): What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you guys on tour? |
Spencer: I don’t know really, not a whole lot of crazy stuff has ever happened to us on tour. I don’t know I need more time to think about this. The only things that I can really think of is the normal kind of stuff but having problems with our van or having problems with our equipment and stuff like that and things like happen all the time. |
| |
Andy (Pep-Rock): Do you guys have any last comments or closing statements? |
Spencer: Nah. |
