Band Of The Month
Year Zero Interview 02.06.05 - Andy

Pep-Rock: Could you please tell us your name and what you do in the band?

Jamie: Hello there, my name is Jamie and I am the singer in Year:Zero

Pep-Rock: How did u come up with the name of the band?

Jamie: The name itself is important as it is the beginning, Year zero is the start of everything in the context of time, and seemed quite apt for us as we are a new band trying new and different approaches to writing music.

Pep-Rock: How did you guys all meet?

Jamie: It’s a long story how we all met, I went to school with James (drummer)when I was younger, and met Charles (guitarist) at a place I worked at, Justin (guitarist) is my brother!! And our new addition Lewis (Bass) I met through a friend of a friend (that was the short version).

Pep-Rock: Are you looking forward to the release of ‘With A Menshevik Stride’?

Jamie: Yeah definitely, I think I can speak on behalf of the band and say how excited we are at the release of our newest EP, which a lot of us are looking at our very first EP although technically it’s our third! But the reason being, this is how we want to sound and develop from accordingly, it’s kind of like the foundations and the rest will be built upon and developed over time. This release is kind of like our first steps as a band, and the next will be getting an album together and getting a bigger release, across Europe and other territories basically. Just a steady build is the way I see us progressing.

Pep-Rock: How was the recording process of the EP?

Jamie: Well, I’m sure it may be different for the other members, but I had an amazing time in Swansea working with a top producer Joe Gibb (Catatonia, Jane’s Addiction, Funeral For A Friend, Million Dead and many more). Obviously with a time limit of a week for four tracks things could have been done better with more time, but recording for me is there to capture a moment in time so the EP does that for me, it was stressful but enjoyable, and the end result is really satisfying.

Pep-Rock: What bands are you guys personally listening to at the moment?

Jamie: Again this will vary from member to member as we all have different tastes. I have personally been listening to At The Drive in, Million Dead (new one), The Clash, Alice in Chains, Biffy Clyro, One Line Drawing, Roots Manuva…..to name but a few, but the list goes on!

Pep-Rock: What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you guys as a band?

Jamie: Nothing too crazy as of yet, except people wanting autographs and photos with us, that’s more weird than crazy, but at the same time very flattering….but weird!!

Pep-Rock: So what’s the plan for Year Zero in 2005?

Jamie: Just a lot of gigs and a lot of song writing as we want to start recording the album in the summer and sort out a label to release it through, we have a few new tracks in the pipe line which seem to be going really well.

Pep-Rock: Do you have any big tours planned for this year?

Jamie: None as of yet, but we are working on a couple of tours and are forever in negotiations with other bands. To be honest we gig so frequently that it feels like one big tour, with little breaks in between!

Pep-Rock: Do you have any last comments or closing statements?

Jamie: Just the usual thank you to everyone for their support, and we look forward to unleashing a full length album some time after the summer, thank you all for your time and please keep supporting new music….

Pep-Rock: Cheers
